A rather odd place for a Solabeat gig I must say but then again, the last time I saw them was on a boat on the Thames so there you go. They were due to kick off at 1pm but didn’t play until 1:30 in the end due to an all girl band that had played earlier that turned up and then decided it would be cool to play. The Solabeat party kicked off with Set It Off and right from the beginning you could tell it was going to be an awesome gig because the band were so energetic and had so much to offer. Everyone in the crowd seemed to be loving it and having the time of their lives. The band showed their enthusiasm for the gig jumping around and generally having a great time, John in particular stood out as having a cool time – skanking around the stage in between singing and playing trombone. Two new tracks were played from the album, ‘Island Fire’ which is due out some time in Autumn. They were all awesome tracks, both of which had been played on the Over The Moon Tour. Each and every song they played was excellent and was bursting at the seams with energy, with the band putting all their effort into their music and churning out an awesome sound. They played a 45 minute set (should have been an hour but wasn’t) and not once did I find myself getting bored as when you are watching them live you totally feed off of their energy and you can really tell that you are not the only ones having a great time as the band are also going mad and it is the band that seem to make the crowd go so wild. Solabeat Alliance are probably one of the finest Ska bands going around in the UK at the moment and certainly have the potential to become a lot bigger as they obviously have great talent and everyone watching should be able to see that. As I say, it was a strange gig but even though not many people went there knowing who the band were, I can tell you this a hell of a lot more people came out of the tent knowing who they were and isn’t that what it’s all about, increasing your fan base? So, this was definitely a great Solabeat gig and although I was completely knackered where I had to get up so early to go all the way to Hertfordshire I still enjoyed myself and will definitely be going to see them at the next opportunity.
