Having enjoyed the Kaiser Chiefs ‘Employment’ album of 2005, I had been looking forward to their return and it is with much regret therefore that I have to say that their latest offering has left me extremely disappointed. While the Kaiser Chiefs previous singles have always been upbeat and fun, ‘Ruby’ is a generic, clichéd and extremely dull track that I just can’t seem to get in to. Having listened to it numerous times now on the off chance that this would be a grower, I have found that ‘Ruby’ really is as lacklustre and uninspiring as I first thought. Plodding along without ever really getting going, ‘Ruby’ is a track where the contemplation of ever possibly releasing this as a single should not have taken place. It is usually the case that the first single to be taken from an album of this sort is one of the strongest if not the strongest track on the album, however if ‘Ruby’ is the strongest track on the Kaiser Chiefs album which is to be released February 26th then the band have got some serious problems.
