Just as we learn that Doctor Who star Matt Smith will be leaving the show at the end of the year after four years in the role of the Doctor, there’s also big news for his former co-star Karen Gillan as it’s been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that she’s landed a role in the new Marvel adventure Guardians Of The Galaxy which is all set for release in 2014.
Gillan, who popularly played the role of Amy Pond in Doctor Who from 2010 to 2012, is expected to be the lead female villain in the upcoming James Gunn directed film, although exact details of her role in the new Marvel movie are yet to be confirmed.
After her stint in the popular BBC science fiction drama, Scottish actress Karen Gillan is fast building a strong reputation for herself as an actress, and her landing of this leading role in the new Marvel film will no doubt further add to her strength and status as an actress as she stars in a film that’s sure to be a major box office smash in summer 2014.
Michael Rooker’s portrayal of The Walking Dead’s resident bad boy Merle Dixon has already secured him the villainous role of Yondu in the film, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Lee Pace are also amongst the stars all set to appear, and Karen Gillan now joins the cast in a move that is sure to please Doctor Who fans all around the world that may well have thought that it was only a matter of time before the young British star landed a major Hollywood role such as this.
Shooting is due to begin on the film in London this summer, and Guardians Of The Galaxy is currently pencilled in for an August 1st 2014 release date.
