Ron Perlman has taken to Twitter to declare his wish to finish the Hellboy trilogy, gaining support in his quest for completion from co-stars Doug Jones and Selma Blair.
Anybody out there wanna see #HellboyIII as much as I do? Let's get this muthafucka trending, y'all!
Let's end the trilogy; we earned it!
— Ron Perlman (@perlmutations) June 3, 2015
Perlman appeared as key protagonist Hellboy in the original film in 2004, reprised his role for Hellboy II: The Golden Army in 2008, and is now keen to get the ball rolling with a third film in the series to end the trilogy. Doug Jones and Selma Blair also appeared in both of Hellboy’s previous cinematic outings, with Selma Blair appearing as love interest Liz Sherman and Doug Jones fulfilling the role of Abe Sapien.
There have long been whispers of a third instalment to the Hellboy series, and director Guillermo del Toro is once again expected to take the director’s chair. So far no concrete plans have been made, however, in light of Ron Perlman’s latest move to elicit the support of the Hellboy community worlwide, this may well help set the wheels in motion to progress Hellboy III from rumour to reality.
With Ron Perlman’s tweet having received thousands of retweets, there is clearly some substantial support for a third and final Hellboy film, whether or not this will ultimately happen still remains to be seen though and Guillermo del Toro has previously cited a lack of financial backing as the reason for Hellboy’s indefinite hiatus, making it clear that “Creatively, I would love to make it. Creatively. But it is proven almost impossible to finance. Not from MY side, but from the studio side. If I was a multimillionaire, I would finance it myself, but I spend all my money on rubber monsters.”
The director is behind the project, the actors certainly seem up for it, but will this third and final film ever ultimately be able to receive its release? Only time will tell as to what the future holds for the long awaited Hellboy III.
