It was bound to happen sooner of later; Pokémon Go players seemed to be absolutely everywhere when the game was first released, but as reported by the BBC and numerous others, Pokémon Go’s popularity is in decline and as the summer sunshine disappears the popularity of the game from Niantic will no doubt dwindle further.
I, like many others, was quick to download Pokémon Go when it was first released, quickly rising up through the ranks to Level 22, taking down gym’s and raiding PokéStops everywhere I went. It got to a certain point though where it was no longer quite so fun to capture and evolve as many Pidgey’s, Weedle’s and Caterpie’s as possible. Adding new Pokémon to the Pokédex became an increasingly rare occurrence and hatching eggs became more and more of a disappointment as the same Pokémon frequently hatched, shattering my hopes and dreams every time of picking up something new and exciting.
There has been speculation that Niantic may add Generation 2 Pokémon in early 2017, a move that may well revive interest in the game as it once again becomes a more frequent activity to pick up different types of Pokémon on your travels, but will a 2017 release for second generation Pokémon prove to be a little too late?
With interest in Pokémon Go beginning to decline, quick action could well be key to holding people’s interest in the title as the weather gets colder. New features for the game would be an incredibly welcome addition, and adding second generation Pokémon to the mix would definitely help bring me back to my now scarcely opened Pokémon Go app.
Having already picked up Jolteon, Flareon and Vaporeon, the additional Eevee evolutions of Umbreon and Espeon would definitely be greatly appreciated, as would the likes of Bellossom, Politoed and Slowking. Onix is a relatively useless Pokémon to hatch from a 10k egg right now, but with the introduction of Steelix that may well prove to be an absolute game changer.
The introduction of second generation Pokémon evolutions seems absolutely inevitable at some point, but for me it’s an exciting new addition to the game that could really do with happening sooner rather than later.
